REQUIREMENTS:

Amherst College invites applications for the Senior Accountant position. The Senior Accountant position is a full-time, year-round position, job group and level PT-2. Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant plays an integral role in tracking the cash activity/levels for the College as well as monitoring the activity of key investment accounts.

This role also takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Cash Activity

  • Record/Monitor daily cash balance of the college. Establish an outstanding disbursement check balance. Keep schedule of cash inflow/outflow for cash projections.
  • Reconcile Bank accounts monthly ensuring all activity has been booked. Maintain updated files regarding all Bank information (ie: contacts, authorizations, addresses, wire information) for each bank in a central location.
  • Communication to a diverse set of relevant parties regarding cash activity, including deposits

Investment Accounting

  • Record transactions for Amherst College and Folger Shakespeare Memorial Library (Folger) endowments and non-endowment investments to the GL. This includes all capital calls, distributions, income, expenses, etc.
  • Analysis of quarterly reports and K1s to ensure all activity is recorded properly to the GL
  • Reconcile investment activity at custodial bank
  • Maintain spreadsheet for all activity to properly record split between Amherst/Folger/Unitrusts
  • Prepare schedules for the annual closing, audit, and external financial statements as necessary

Escheatment

  • Administer and file abandon property annually

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2 – 5 years of related experience
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Strong written and verbal communication, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with a diverse community
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of a degree, 4 years of related experience
