RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Treasurer and overall supervision of the Associate Treasurer, assists with tax compliance including reviewing, analyzing, and responding to tax related matters for both domestic and global tax operations. This includes supporting the University departments with their business tax needs and assisting staff on tax concerns.  Directly responsible for the preparation and filing of certain tax returns and related information.

Essential Functions:

  • Preparation of tax returns including Form 990-T, Form 720, MA Sales Tax, Form 1042 and others
  • Deposit and reconcile tax payments including those for non-resident aliens, performers and vaccine excise
  • Assist with the implementation of operational procedures for monitoring tax compliance of foreign persons
  • Reconcile and analyze University tax accounts
  • Participate in year-end tax reporting (1099, W-2, 1042-S. 1098-T)
  • Research and consult on various projects
  • Assist with the resolution of tax issues affecting each campus and the University as a whole
  • Participate in the implementation of multi state tax reporting and withholding requirements
  • Assist in the implementation of tax policy
  • Participate in the ongoing education of campus individuals regarding changes in tax matters
  • Obtain and maintains sale tax exempt certificates in other states

Other Functions:

  • Assists in the development of operating procedures for all matters related to the tax function
  • Assists with the preparation of data or in the development of responses to IRS and Department of Revenue correspondence
  • Assists with special projects
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in accounting and/or tax functions
  • Some tax knowledge, research skills, and proven ability to apply and communicate that knowledge
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative teamwork atmosphere, through working effectively as a team member; understanding personal and team roles; contributing to a positive working environment by building solid relationships with team members; proactively seeking guidance, clarification and feedback
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficient in current office technology, including Microsoft Office suite of software

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Master’s degree is a plus
  • CPA designation is preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Typical Office environment
  • Primary work location is Shrewsbury, MA however travel to all campuses is required
  • Upon management approval this job is eligible for hybrid working privileges.
